Wanted: Cute home (larger than the current one) in a diverse area with excellent schools and friendly neighbors. And it needs to be closer to my family. And affordable. With low taxes ;)

Does anyone know of a home like this? sigh...

We're talking about moving and it's been a very stressful process so far; and we haven't even put our house on the market yet! We currently live in a very diverse area that has absolutely zero community appeal. We've been here almost three years and have met one neighbor. One! In the suburbs! It's just strange, I literally never see any people here. Now that Ella's home I want her to have a neighborhood with friends and other children. That definitely doesn't exist where we are now.

I'd also like to be closer to my family, but that poses another problem. There are no towns near them that have the diversity that we are looking for. So we've expanded our search and we're going to start scouting out new towns and areas soon. My husband and I feel strongly that we don't want Ella being the only Asian or the only minority in her class at school. And the great thing about living in New Jersey is that we have plenty of options to find places with the diversity we crave. But they're not going to be as close to family as I'd like and they're not all going to be as affordable as is necessary for us to be able to move there.

No longer can I just see a cute town and think we could live there. Now there is so much more to think about. We want to do our best to ensure that Ella sees other Asian faces every day and has friends of all races. I don't want her to stand out in her school picture as the only non white child.

I'd like to add to my list of requirements that there be other internationally adopted kids on our block, preferably from Viet Nam. That's not too much to ask, is it? ;)

Have you checked out findyourspot.com? It picked a town in Louisiana for me ... if I ever return to the States ... that I wound never have thought of, but sounds wonderful.
It's a great site that lets you input all sorts of criteria, then presents options with descriptions.
Here't the link to my post about it:

I understand completely. we are in the process of buying a home in Little River, Texas because of the fact that it is a wonderful little town that is diverse and it has a fantastic school district. Good Luck on your search!!!!!
