I'm so excited! We're going to be celebrating Tet at my house :) My husband and I were throwing around the idea of having people over for Tet and this morning I realized that it's in twelve days!!!
So I put together an evite with a 'Happy New Year' theme and sent it out. We decided to limit our guest list to family only because we just don't have the space for many people. It's going to be tight as it is. It makes the thought of having a larger home even more exciting~then we can have more people over for Tet next year.
I'm going to look into serving some traditional Vietnamese foods. I've made pho before, but won't be doing that on the 18th because it's just a little too time consuming. I'm excited to start looking for recipes. I may head over to the local Asian supermarket and see what kind of goodies I can come up with. I'm toying with the idea of picking up a rice cooker too; we've been talking about getting one and starting to make "real" rice (re: not Minute rice.);)

It just feels so nice to be able to celebrate Ella's culture and get the whole family involved. Those who I've heard back from sound excited too. I included a little bit of information about what Tet is in the evite, so this should be a learning experience all around.
The only cold drink that I think of when I think of Viet Nam is orange Fanta, because it was everywhere. Does anyone have any ideas about a drink I could serve? I could always do hot tea too, especially since it is freezing in New Jersey right now!
I'd love to hear any ideas about throwing a Tet party and I'll be sure to share what I come up with :)
