I guess when I think of the National Football League, the image of a Vietnamese American man doesn't pop into my head. My brother in law is an ivy league college football coach and my husband's a huge Giants fan, but that's about as far as my football/NFL knowledge goes! My curiosity made me click on this article, so I thought I'd share :)

Vietnamese American Returns to Dallas Cowboys

Nguoi Viet, Posted: Mar 08, 2007

DALLAS - Dat Nguyen, the first Vietnamese American to play in the NFL, will be walking the sidelines for the Dallas Cowboys again, reports the Vietnamese-language newspaper Nguoi Viet. Nguyen's family immigrated to the United States after South Vietnam fell to communism. Nguyen, who was forced to retire from professional football last year because of injuries, has signed a three-year contract to serve as an assistant coach for the team. New head coach Wade Phillips named Nguyen, 31, assistant linebackers/defensive quality-control coach. The Vietnamese American declined a coaching offer from the University of Houston in order to return to Dallas, where he played seven seasons with the Cowboys.
