A bridge in Viet Nam collapsed on Wednesday killing many members of the crew that were working on it and leaving scores of other people trapped or missing. The bridge was being built in Can Tho City which is south of Ho Chi Minh City. This piece of the bridge (which was actually a ramp leading to the Can Tho Bridge,) seems to have collapsed due to problems with the support of the scaffolding. The bridge links Can Tho City and Vinh Long over the Hau River.

The World Wildlife Fund reported that eleven new species of plants and animals have been discovered in Viet Nam. The central province of Thua Thien Hue is now known as the home to the white lipped keelback snake, a skipper butterfly and three varieties of leafless orchids among the other new species found. As always, human threats such as development and hunting bring about concern for these new species.

Dengue Fever is still a concern in Viet Nam. Warnings were issues about how to protect yourself from Dengue Fever back in July and the health concerns surrounding the disease are still increasing. The Ministry of Health is reporting that the number of cases of Dengue Fever is up by 48% from the same time last year. Public awareness, quick treatments and mosquito prevention efforts have helped keep the death toll from rising dramatically.

Viet Nam Airlines is considering offering the luxury and convenience of air taxis to four popular tourist sites in Viet Nam. Tourism is increasing in Viet Nam, and these air taxis would be a way to entice even more tourist dollars to be spent in country. The air taxis, which would be small planes and helicopters would fly to Ha Long Bay, Da Lat, Phy Quoc Island and Cam Ranh.
