Viet Nam Adoptive Family Interviews : An Introduction

Was your home study experience a pleasant one? What is it that stands out in your memory about your home study?

The Engelbrecht Family - Yes, we had no problems. I found it odd that they wanted to know information about our honeymoon.

Christina - We had a very good home study experience. We worked with Children’s Home Society– Holt provides a list of social workers they work with and CHS was on that list. Having done one previous adoption, we knew what to expect so we weren’t nervous in that regard. But we found our social worker to be really easy to talk to and to work with and she was very prompt in completing our study and in providing other paperwork when we needed it. I also felt like I could speak openly and honestly with her and really work through questions (like whether I was prepared to adopt a 3 year old) without fear of judgment.


The Mynes Family - We did have a good home study. I was really nervous about it (Chris wasn’t). I had cleaned everything for days even the closets (which she didn’t look in). It went very well. I remember it being very long. Our social worker came at around 9:00 in the morning and stayed for about 6 hours. She had to travel 3 hours to our home and just did everything in one day. She kept stressing the point that it is very important to have a memory book for your child and I agree very much so with that.

The Micheline Family – Our social worker was AMAZING. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G We used Lori Fraas. The work was hard (lots of questions, lots of memories, losts of looking ahead and really forcing ourselves to figure out how we were going to be as parents and handle certain situations) but it was worth it. Lori made us feel like parents, not as people going through some paper process.
