As I
posted about a few days ago, the Joint Council on International Children’s Services is holding a summit to discuss the state of adoptions in Viet Nam. They have just announced the
details of the summit and I thought it would be of interest to many readers of this blog. If you are a prospective adoptive parents (PAP) who is currently adopting from Viet Nam and haven’t heard about this summit from your agency, I would recommend contacting them. It is so important that all agencies attend, and I would be incredibly shocked if there are any that choose not to.
The summit will be held on Friday November 28th in Washington, D.C. There will be representatives from the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Congress in attendance along with the adoption professionals. Any organizations wishing to attend must let the JCICS know by next Friday, November 23rd.

All of my agency’s (Asian Children Services) families were notified about this meeting and told that our executive director will be attending. As I mentioned before, if you have not heard from your agency, why not give them a call or shoot off an email to be sure that they will be sending a representative. I wonder if there will be an official list of those in attendance made public. I would be extremely curious to see which agencies (if any) did not attend.
The purpose of this summit is to discuss the current happenings in Vietnamese adoption. The JCICS is stressing that their goal is to unify the system and protect all children in it. I hope that minutes or statements from the summit will be published and made public to give all of us families an insight into what was discussed. If only I could be a fly on that wall!
