Our Viet Nam Adoption Timeline

Please keep in mind that adoptions are individual processes and can take varying amounts of time...

now that I said that...I COMPLETELY understand how as a prospective adoptive parent you are starving for any bit of information that can tell you how long your wait may possibly be ;) I know I was a little addicted to reading people's time frames, so I thought I would share mine.

8/3/05 mailed preliminary application to ACS

8/15/05 mailed application to CHSA (our home study agency) w/ autobiographies + picture

8/05 received packet from CHSA

8/24/05 went to Trenton and got 3 copies each of our birth certificates and marriage certificate

8/26/05 attended CHSA educational group meeting

8/26/05 submitted CARI forms to CHSA

9/15/05 got fingerprinted (Sagem Morpho)

9/19/05 had medical exams

10/4/05 mailed Home Study documents to CHSA

10/27/05 home visit

11/21/05 mailed full application and contract to ACS

1/5/06 received completed official home study

1/17/06 mailed to ACS:home study, G-28, I-600 A, marriage+birth certificates

1/28/06 attended ACS workshop for prospective adoptive parents

2/23/06 immigration fingerprinting appointment in Newark

2/28/06 got the go ahead to start working on our dossier!

4/4/06 received our I-171!!!

4/17/06 Fed-Exed our COMPLETED DOSSIER to ACS!

4/19/06 Dossier sent to Secretary of State

5/3/06 Dossier back from Secretary of State & sent to the embassy

5/9/06 Dossier back from the embassy

5/13/06 Dossier being brought to VN by RoseMarie

5/31/06 Dossier is in VN and has been turned in for translation

6/6/06 REFERRAL!!!!

6/20/06 I-600 sent to USCIS

6/22/06 Submitted official referral acceptance paperwork

7/10/06 Received official approval from USCIS

7/24/06 Cuc's file went to the DOJ

8/14/06 Our file was accepted by the International Adoption Department (IAD) in Hanoi and was forwarded to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Bac Giang. As of
this past weekend, our file is currently at the center (orphanage) in Bac Giang.

9/1/06 Police Report completed by the Bac Giang police, and our file was turned in to the DOJ-now waiting for their approval

9/20/06 Received travel packet from ACS

9/22/06 Sent completed travel packet to ACS

9/27/06 VN visas applied for

10/14/06 Left for Viet Nam!!!

10/17/06 Met our daugher and had Giving and Receiving Ceremony

11/3/06 Arrived home safe and sound (and exhausted!) :)
