On Tuesday I broke out the play doh for the first time. This tiny little container of purple play doh was so symbolic of things to come with Miss Ella. To me, it represents a big girl activity and she was definitely ready for it. We’ve been coloring and drawing for a long time now and she likes to do creative projects with her hands. So when a friend gave us a few of their leftover Halloween mini play dohs, I happily took them home with us.

At first she had no idea what to do with this weird stuff that I had presented before her. After a few minutes of watching me play with it, she caught right on. She would intently watch me roll out snakes and then try to imitate my motions to make snakes of her own. We had two close calls where the play doh was on the way to her mouth, but luckily I caught her first. To give her credit, she was in her high chair, so that could have been confusing ;)

Lately we’ve been doing more and more activities that are not baby activities by any means. We go for walks all the time and now that she has discovered her shadow, we have so much fun with all the shadow games we play during our walks. Earlier this week she discovered that if she shook her head from side to side, her pig tails would shake and she could watch the movement in her shadow. Well, she took off down the road (don’t worry; we’re on a dead end dirt road with no traffic!) shaking those piggies and giggling and bouncing away. I couldn’t help but realize how much she’s grown and how absolutely amazed I am by her.

So I’m really excited for all that’s in store. I want to make macaroni necklaces and finger paint and play paper dolls. I wonder if it will ever seem real or if I’ll always be pinching myself wondering how lucky I am that I get to spend my days with this little love of a girl…my big girl who is growing leaps and bounds right before my eyes.
