My Love Thursday
post from last week
Was titled “Love Across Generations” and was about Ella’s relationship with my grandmother, her Great Grandma. It was suggested that I get a picture of myself, my mother, my grandmother and Ella…four generations of women in my family. I quickly remembered that we had taken this exact picture at Ella’s welcome home party last fall, a few weeks after we came home from Viet Nam.
As many of you know, my husband, Ella and I are in the process of selling our house and are living with my parents and grandmother while we wait out this seemingly endless and terribly slow real estate market. It has been an amazing opportunity for us all to develop deeper relationships and share in the daily tasks that make up our lives. Being under the same roof allows us all an intimate look into each others’ lives and I am extremely appreciative of this time.

There were many pictures taken of the four of us that day sitting on the couch. Many were extremely flattering; all of us with mega watt smiles and looking joyful. But the picture I posted today says much more. It shows how we are all working together to raise this precious child. She is at the center of our world and we are all grateful for the time that we have with her. We are all smitten and completely enamored by her, and I am sure that she feels and understands that love and security.
Having a supportive extended family is becoming less and less commonplace as people spread out all over the country and world. For now, for this time that we all have together, I am trying not to take one second for granted. The fact that my parents and Grandma know Ella’s schedule, favorite foods, likes and dislikes and get to interact with her every single day is priceless. No matter how stressful our house selling situation is, I need to remember that we have all been given a gift by this experience.
