Well folks, we made it home in one piece! Actually, we’ve been back since Wednesday night but have been trying to decompress a little bit. Our very long (and very fun) road trip went extremely well and I am so glad the ridiculously large number of miles we planned to travel didn’t deter us. We spent a little over a week away, traveling through four states, spending time at my husband’s family’s lake cottage and spending the weekend with families that I have become friends with in an online adoptive parenting group.
First of all, let me tell you how refreshing it is to be with a group of adoptive parents and their ridiculously gorgeous and adorable children. As I have mentioned before, being with people who “get it” is such a welcome change. Since the online group that I belong to is made up of women, most of the husbands at the gathering are not used to the support and camaraderie that we share. Many expressed how pleasantly surprised they were to be able to talk and ask questions openly in a group of people who were happy and eager to talk about their experiences. We are all in the same boat (no matter how different that boat may appear on the outside.)

Ella did very well, aside from the expected troubles with adjusting to new sleeping and eating schedules. Even though we’re home now I still notice myself feeling nervous about her being upset or uncomfortable in the car. She was such a trooper and seemed to be excited for the next rest stop to come up so she could run around and stretch those little legs out. She also developed a larger vocabulary in the time we were gone. ‘Tree’ and ‘cookie’ have been added to her repertoire and ‘please’ is said with such gusto and conviction now that we just have to give her what ever she is requesting (more often than not it is the afore mentioned ‘cookie’.)
Now that we’re settling in back at home I’m excited to get back to work finding information for you about adopting from Viet Nam. I hope you all enjoyed the
Viet Nam Family Interview Series and hope to bring you more stories of other Viet Nam adoptive families in the future. Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
