Well, it happened. My little Ella is now officially a one year old! She celebrated her first birthday this week and it was a wonderful occasion. It was so much fun for me to plan and get ready and then be able to carry out her birthday plans (and yes, I know that she doesn’t really know what was going on :).)
Her birthday was extra special because since my husband has spring break all week, we got to spend the whole day together as a family. The big event for the day was going to have her pictures taken at Picture People; it was the first time we had professional pictures done. We walked away with breathtakingly beautiful shots, but if you could have seen the Tasmanian devil that my child turned into during the shoot you would have laughed out loud. She wanted absolutely no part in sitting still in front of a back drop. She wanted to crawl and explore and arch her back and kick and yell! Her dad and I were sweating and tired by the time it was all over, but we did manage to get a bunch of gorgeous pictures, so it was all worth it.

There were a lot of new food experiences to be had on her birthday. While we were waiting to see the pictures we had lunch together at the food court and she did so well. She really enjoyed her spaghetti, falafel and cheerios :) After my sleepy girl had her nap at home she got to have her first taste of cake. We were slightly concerned that she would find it too sweet, but that was not an issue at all. She loved and devoured her pink and purple princess crown cake that I made for her that morning.
It was just a lovely day and we all had such a nice time and were exhausted by the end of it. If there is a ‘buying birthday paraphernalia anonymous’, then I may just have to join. After the “My first birthday” crown, bib, outfit, candle, cake, plates and napkins (well, those were from Grandma!), she was well decked out. Just wait till next year! :)
