Ok…seriously…what kind of baby crack is in these DVDs? I am amazed and fascinated and just a little bit disturbed by how much Ella is captivated by the Baby Einstein DVDs. The person/people who created the series must have done some serious research to find out exactly what babies respond to and how to hold their attention. Judging from the extreme popularity of the Baby Einstein name, all different kinds of babies and parents love them.
We have the Baby Van Gogh, Baby Galileo and Baby Mozart (and I really want the Baby Shakespeare, but that’s more for me!) I had no idea what to expect when I first put in the Van Gogh disc for the first time, and I still don’t quite know how to explain it. The half hour show is made up of little vignettes with music, words, colors and movement like bubbles, balloons and water. It doesn’t even do justice to her attraction to the Van Gogh DVD to say that she absolutely loves it. She is fixated by it. My always busy, always moving, always into something baby girl sits on the floor and watches almost the entire DVD and loves it. She responds to the children on the screen and loves the noises and colors.

I’ve only put in the Galileo one once because she wasn’t interested in that one at all. Last week I broke out the Mozart one, mainly because I was interested. It’s a very similar format to the Van Gogh, only without the kids, words and poetry. She liked this one a lot, but not quite as much as Van Gogh. But it was beyond adorable to watch her bounce her shoulders up and down when a song came on that she liked.
This picture is of her being fascinated by her first viewing of Baby Mozart. I think now we’ll have a rotation of two DVDs to watch when Ella (and mommy) need some down time.
