Who among us isn't a sucker for anything related to Viet Nam? Before I traveled to adopt Ella, I was hungry for anything that would help me feel a little bit closer to my little girl on the other side of the world. Now that we’re home and I’m almost always feeling nostalgic for Viet Nam, I love looking at books and items that take me back. I’m also always on the lookout for things to share with Ella to help her learn about and feel a connection to her birth country and to understand more about adoption.

The Land I Lost: Adventures of a Boy in Viet Nam: This book tells the author’s story of his childhood, growing up in rural Viet Nam. The language is descriptive and rich in culture and will help you and your child experience a different side of Viet Nam. It is recommended for older children, around ten years old.

Legacy of an Adopted Child Print: I love this poem. It’s simplicity is heart warming and I really like that it respects both birth mother and adoptive mother. I wish it didn’t include the phrase “give you up,” but otherwise it’s really touching. It is available in pink or blue.

Viet Nam Thank You Cards: These cards are so cute! They even have the Vietnamese phrase for thank you, “cam on” printed on the front. They would be perfect to send out after a baby shower, welcome home party, or even just to send some special thanks to those who have been extra supportive of your new family.

Children Just Like Me: This is a great book for all children. It shows photographs of children from all over the world, their traditional clothing, food, hobbies, friends and families. One boy in Ethiopia lives in an orphanage. This book could be a great conversation starter for your family to discuss how families are different and how people live in other parts of the world.

Adoption Day Cards: What a great way to make your child feel special on their Adoption Day! There are a few different styles available-all are beautiful.
