Here we go…one step closer! I spoke with our social worker this evening and scheduled our home visit for this Sunday! I am really excited that we were able to schedule it so quickly, and I’m really looking forward to it. Ok, I’m mostly looking forward to B (our social worker, who also did Ella’s home visit and post placement) getting to see Ella! It’s been a year since we’ve seen her and I’m proud of how we’re all doing.

This time around we’re in a different house with three other adults, so I was worried about scheduling our visit at a time that would work for everyone involved. Luckily, B offered to come out on a weekend since she didn’t want to be the cause of so much missed time from work. What a relief! I am really glad that we decided to use the same home study agency for our second adoption.

I’m not nervous at all; I’m more excited than anything. We already know our social worker, we know how the visit will go and we’re much more relaxed since it’s been over a year that we’ve been home with Ella. I think it will go well and actually be a nice afternoon. Prior to our home visit for Ella’s adoption we cleaned like crazy, baked something (I can’t remember what!) so the house would smell nice, worried about what we might be asked, and were completely shocked that B really just wanted to talk to us. Of course she checked that the house was safe and everything, but all I remember her saying was “cute.” There was no mention of how clean the closets were!

My husband and I were both a little shocked at the depth of our conversation during our first home visit. The three of us talked at length about the loss of our son and our choice to adopt over conceiving another biological child. We discussed transracial parenting and parenting an adopted child along with how our lives were going to change. As much as we were providing answers, we were also learning a great deal throughout the conversation.

So we’re about to be yet another step nearer to Viet Nam. It is just amazing and I feel so incredibly lucky that we have the opportunity to adopt again! I’ll let you know how Sunday goes :)
