Families With Children From Viet Nam Get Together

We went to our very first Families With Children From Viet Nam (FCVN) get together this past weekend and had such a nice time! It was such a relaxed, happy group of people that I was quick to forget that I was meeting these families for the first time.

There were about eight families there who are all at different stages of the adoption process. Some are still in the paperwork stage, some have recently returned home, others adopted before the shutdown; so it was really great to see all these different families come together based on our common bond. And that common bond is an adorable one because everyone’s kids were too cute!

It was nice to be able to share stories and listen to other families’ experiences and be able to completely relate to them. I got to learn about different agencies and the positive and negative stories people had about their experiences. Ella did wonderfully; she really enjoys social situations and absolutely loves other children. When the big kids went to play outside she insisted that we go too, so we sat and watched them run and play from our swing.

It was so touching to see the older kids interact with the babies (Ella and a sweet little six month old girl.) One little girl asked what Ella’s Vietnamese name was and I got to here a little boy’s entire adoption story which he was extremely proud of and happy about These kids all have the fact that they were born in Viet Nam and adopted by Americans and now live in New Jersey in common and I love the fact that they get to interact with each other.

We stayed until Ella had had enough and had reached the “I must have a nap NOW” breaking point. Later, when I was looking through the pictures I had snapped I saw one of my husband walking around with Ella and realized that we were part of this group. What an awesome feeling and an awesome experience.
