Direct From the Viet Nam Adoption Agencies’ Mouths

I am excited to be seeing a couple of places online that have recently been dedicated to letting Viet Nam adoption agencies speak about their practices and on their own behalf. There are now two websites that are tracking adoption agency information and as they continue to grow, will be indispensable resources for anyone thinking about adopting from Viet Nam and researching adoption agencies.

The premise behind these projects is that the site owner contacted every adoption agency that is licensed in Viet Nam with a list of detailed questions. Each agency was informed that their answers would be posted online for public viewing and was encouraged to submit detailed, honest answers about their work in Viet Nam. What a great idea!

The “Full Disclosure Project” is featured on the Voices for Viet Nam Adoption Integrity blog. I am a regular reader of this blog and find their work to be extremely beneficial to the Viet Nam adoption community. One of their writers, Christina was generous enough to be one of my interview subjects for my Viet Nam Family Interview Series and I support their dedication over at VVAI. They have received responses from three agencies so far and their goal is to encourage more transparency among Viet Nam adoption service providers (adoption agencies.)

Another great site doing similar work is a personal blog spearheaded by an adoptive mom looking for answers from the agencies working in Viet Nam. Her site is called “Vietnam Agency Answers” and she has received a response from one agency so far, but has had several contact her to let her know that they’re working on their questionnaires. She has been incredibly on top of keeping in contact with and encouraging the agencies to reply and I look forward to seeing more responses on her site.

Some of the questions on the two sites are the same, but I think they are both certainly worth heading over to and looking around a bit. If an agency that you’re considering has not responded to either request for answers, consider dropping them a line letting them know that you’re anxious to see their replies online.

Of course, all answers are timely and it is important to contact adoption agencies directly if you are considering working with them, but these resources are wonderful places to start (and to refer back to as well.)
