I absolutely love my “
Adoptive Families” magazineo spread the word about them and sing their praises. Ella’s grandma gifted us a subscription about a year ago and I have loved every single episode. As the title states, this magazine is all about adoption and adoptive families. They cover all kinds of adoption and stay on top of current events in the adoption world. There are also regular parenting adopted kids features that I have found very helpful. I don’t often have time to read a book all the way through, so I covet the minutes I can spend reading an article that actually applies to me and my family.
Some Borders Books Stores and Barnes and Nobles carry “Adoptive Families,” but they usually only get in one or two copies, so if it’s a far drive, call before you go to make sure they have one in stock. I spent months running around trying to get my hands on new issues before the joy of getting a subscription. The subscription saves you money too, so it’s definitely worth it.

“
Adoption Today” is another adoption related magazine currently in print that deals with international adoption. I also enjoy this magazine and find it full of useful information. I wasn’t able to find “Adoption Today” for sale in any local stores, so ordered a past issue and really enjoyed reading through it. While “Adoptive Families” covers all kinds of adoptions; domestic, foster, family and international, “Adoption Today” focuses only on international and transracial adoption.
They offer regular print
subscriptions, but have also added the option of subscribing digitally so you can read the full issue online at a discounted price. There is also a section of their website that features past articles. I really enjoyed reading the ones about
Viet Nam adoption.
“
Gay Parent Magazine” is not solely devoted to adoption, but there is a large focus on families formed through adoption. Written with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender parents in mind, it offers a wealth of information that is published yearly in May. Back issues are also available if you don’t want to wait until Spring to start reading.
