Vietnam Still Working

1182879_woman_writing_in_the_agendaIt seems as though Vietnam is always my last stop on my whirlwind blogging tour around the globe. I have no other explanation than to say that perhaps I save the best for last? Vietnam appears to be making no movement on re-opening their adoption program to the United States. This is very heart-breaking for those who have been waiting for this to occur. Their latest announcement stated that the United States had stopped adoptions from this country because of the lack of certification on the part of Vietnam. I do know that Vietnam is working to fulfill the agreement that was put into place between them and the United States. Many times, this agreement requires a complete overhaul of the program including… [more]

1324574_lampion_1There is a lot of interest in adoption from Vietnam lately as it is rumored that are slated to re-open soon. The original date for this sought after affair came and went with little information from Vietnam. Now we are waiting impatiently for the good news of re-opening. It seems like a long time in coming. I know that many of you who were interested in adopting from this country have given up and started adoption paperwork for other countries. This is so heart-breaking to hear about but I understand that the wait seems to drag on indefinitely. Vietnam should have a reinforced, stronger program when they re-open in the United States. This can only benefit the long-term adoption program and allow the… [more]

Waiting For the Re-Opening

855962_vietnamese_children_from_a_danag_villageIt is difficult to believe that the last time I blogged regarding the status of Vietnam was in March of this year- I am sorry about that. I am not certain how I missed this. This morning as I researched the status of the adoption program from this country, I find that there have been no real changes. Back in February, a notice was released stating that though Vietnam was certified under the Hague Convention, they had not reached the compliance level that was necessary in order for the United States to re-open the adoption relationship. The notice went so far as to caution prospective adoptive parents to not enter into any adoption agreements with agencies until final approval was granted. This final approval… [more]

No Clear Date

770847_school_The adoption program from the country of Vietnam has been under the watchful eye of prospective adoption parents for awhile- many are waiting for its re-opening to occur. A notice was released in September (but posted on October 17, 2011) restating the past statistics of when Vietnam began the ratification process, when various goals were met and the desired date for the adoption relationship to be re-established. Unfortunately, the re-opening that was slated to occur in the 'near future' has been pushed to 'there is no clear date.' This can be very frustrating and disheartening for the prospective adoption parent because of the lack of apparent movement and the fact that there are still many steps that must be completed for the adoption program to… [more]

Still Waiting

1224529_hourglassAfter last month's positive news, I was hoping that I would have a lot of information to report. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Though Vietnam has talked about re-opening their adoption program, no information has been released pointing to that. This can be very frustrating for those of you are waiting for this country to begin to accept dossiers again. I would encourage you to seek out a reputable agency as this point. They will be able to inform you fully of the status changes as they occur. I am not directly involved with adoption from this country and thus rely on research for my information. The legal aspects of adopting from Vietnam will likely be different when the adoption program re-opens. This is… [more]

News About Vietnam Adoption

1110515_boardroomThe country of Vietnam continues to work toward re-opening their program. In June of 2010 the Vietnamese legislature passed a new law which took effect on January 1, 2011. This law is under continual revision and is delaying the programs desired result of accepting new applicants. All of the legislative work is the result of the signing of the Hague convention on the part of Vietnam which occurred on December 7, 2010. At this time Vietnam expressed its intent to ratify their convention status in July 2011 and fully become 'party to' it in November, 2011. This does not mean that the adoption relationship with the United States would automatically re-open. In order to become adoptive partners again- the United States Central Authority must… [more]

Online Adoption Magazines

There are a handful of print magazines published just for adoptive families, but online options are also increasing in popularity. Two of the three listed below are free, and one charges a yearly subscription fee to read the digital version of their print magazine. The best thing about these online magazines is that you can put them in your favorites or save the email message that it comes in and read whenever you have the time. They’re a great way to stay connected and up to date with the adoption community. Adoption.com (of which adoptionblogs.com is a part) has their very own e-magazine called “Adoption Week.” It is full of current information for people involved in all aspects of adoption and at all stages of… [more]
